மணியென்றது மணிக்கூடு. அனேகர் எழுந்திருந்தனர். அவர்களின் கட்டுப்பாட்டுக்குள் போய்விட
வேண்டும் எனும் ஆவல் எல்லோர் முகங்களிலும் அந்தச் சிமினி விளக்கின் ஒளியிலும்
தெரிந்தது.....

நேரம் 4 மணியாகிவிட்டிருந்தது. ஒவ்வொருவரும் தங்கள் இயற்கைக் கடன்களை முடிக்கவென
எழுந்து போய்க்கொண்டிருந்தனர். ஒருவர் நாங்கள் படுத்திருந்த இடத்தை பாதுகாத்திருந்த
தகரத்துக்கு பின்னே நின்று கடமை புரிந்ததன் விளைவு பலரது கோபம் அவர்மீது விழ அவர்
ஒளிந்த ஒளிப்பு அந்த விடியலில் சிரிப்பாயிருந்தது.

    கிழக்கைக் கைப்பற்றிவிட்டதாக சொல்லிக்கொள்ளும் சிறிலங்கா அரசு, வடக்கிலும் மன்னாரின் சிலாபத்துறைப் பகுதியை கைப்பற்றிவிட்டதாக அறிவித்துள்ளது. சிலாபத்துறை, அரிப்பு போன்ற பகுதிகளை கடந்த 01.09.07 அன்று சிறிலங்காப் படைகள் சென்றடைந்தன. இதன் மூலம் வடக்கிலும் விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் ஒரு பகுதியை கைப்பற்றி விட்டதாக சிறிலங்கா அரசு தம்பட்டம் அடித்து வருகிறது.

I would like to firstly inform all my readers that I do not write articles so that people can just follow me without thinking about it first. You may ask why I say this, I will explain further in the article. About this topic, I have got a lot of response from both the public and family and friends; some being in favour and let’s say some being not so in favour of me writing this article. Yet I still continue to write only to justify my point, after all it is my duty to explain my self and to reply back to those of you who have asked me many questions and even went a step further into telling me to “write to encourage our youngsters to use their potential in these areas and be revolutionised and innovative”.

To tell you all the truth I actually read through my previous articles on this subject many times just to see if I did write anything that was unnecessary or irrelevant or even something inappropriate but to tell you the truth; I really do not feel as if I have committed a huge crime in writing about this.

இன்றைக்குச் சிறிலங்காவிலே இனவாதம் கக்குகின்ற கட்சிகள் என்றதுமே எம் நினைவில் வருவது ஜாதிக ஹெல உறுமயவும் ஜனதா விமுக்தி பெரமுன என்கின்ற ஜே.வி.பியும் தான்.

ஆனால் இலங்கையின் அரசியலையும் ஜெ.வி.பி.யின் கடந்த காலத்தையும் பின்நோக்கிப் பார்த்தால் தமது நோக்கத்தை நிறைவேற்றிக் கொள்வதற்காகச் சரியான பாதையிலே செல்லுகின்ற அரசியல் கட்சியாகவே ஜெ.வி.பியைப் பார்க்க வேண்டி இருக்கிறது.

முதலாவதாக மக்கள் விடுதலை முன்னணி என்ற ஜெ.வி.பியினர் ஜனநாயகத்திலே பாராளுமன்ற அரசியலிலோ எப்போதுமே நம்பிக்கை கொண்டவர்களல்ல.

வெளிச்சத்துக்கு வந்துள்ள அமெரிக்க உளவுத்துறை விவகாரங்கள்   

மற்றய நாடுகளில் மனிதவுரிமை விவகாரமாகட்டும் .. ஒடுக்கப்படட மக்களின் விடுதலைக்காகப் போராடும் விடுதலை இயக்கங்களாகட்டும். இவர்களுக்கெல்லாம் சட்டாம்பிள்ளையாக தன்னை காட்டிக்கொள்ளும் “சனநாயகத்தின் காவலன்”அமெரிக்காவின் உளவுத்துறையின் வண்டவாளங்களை அவர்களாகவே வெளியீட்டுள்ளார்கள். கடந்த ஜூன் 26ம் தேதி ‘அதிகாரபூர்வமாக இந்த திருகுதாளங்கள் அடங்கிய ஆவணத்தை வெளியிட்டு வைத்தவர் வேறு யாருமல்ல சீஐஏ இன் இப்போதைய தலைவர் மைக்கேல் வி. ஹேடன்.
1950 முதல் 1970 வரை சி.ஐ.ஏ. ஆல் நடாத்தப்பட்ட அராஜகங்களை ‘தணிக்கை' செய்யப்பட்ட 702 பக்க அறிக்கையாக வெளியிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. (தணிக்கை செய்யப்படாமலிருந்தால் என்ன என்னவெல்லாமோ வெளிவந்திருக்கும்.)

I am a Hindu, but not a strong Hindu. I respect not only my religion but
all other religions that are practiced all over the world. I have been to almost all the
religious worshiping places of the major religious sections in various parts of the world and have a fair knowledge of how people behave in their respective places of worship.

Although people may argue that Hindus have a unique way of worshiping
their gods, it makes me to come to a conclusion that the Hindu gods are merciless
towards their devotees. This is the only religion that allows it's followers being
self tortured by various ways, such as fire walking, rolling on sun baked sand, piercing parts of  the body with
sharp objects, carrying earthenware pots containing burning camphor and
worst of  all hanging on flexible poles with metal hooks pierced through the skin
in the back.

So much noise is created during worshiping time in a Hindu temple by
beating the  drums, ringing the bells and shouting various mantras as if the god they
are praying is deaf. Most of us do not realise the fact that a quiet serene place
provides the ideal environment to meditate and pray.

“தமிழ் மக்களின் அபிலாசைகளை தான் அறிந்திருந்தும் சிங்கள மக்களின் வாக்குக்களே தனக்கு முக்கியமானவை. எனவே அவர்களுக்கு ஏற்புடைய தீர்வொன்றைப்பற்றி மட்டுமே தன்னால் சிந்திக்க முடியும்” எனவும் “சமஸ்டி முறைமை என்பது சிங்கள மக்களுக்கு கெட்ட வார்த்தை போலிருப்பதால் அதுபற்றி தான் அக்கறைப்படவில்லை” எனவும் திரு. மகிந்த இராஜபக்ச இந்திய ஊடகமொன்றிற்கு வழங்கிய பேட்டியில் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்.  இது போன்ற கருத்துக்களை முன்பிருந்த சிங்களத்தலைவர்களும்; பூடகமாகத் தெரிவித்து வந்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் சிங்கள மக்களின் உண்மையான நிலைப்பாட்டை வெளிப்படையாகத் அறிவித்திருக்கும் மகிந்த பாராட்டுக்குரியவர். 2005ம் ஆண்டில், அவர்பதவியேற்ற சிலகாலத்தில், அவரை ஒரு யதார்த்தவாதி என திரு.

கடந்த ஞாயிறன்று பாரிஸ் மாணிக்க பிள்ளையார் கோவில் தேரிற்கு சென்றிருந்த வேளை ஊர் நண்பனுடன் எங்கள் ஊர் பிள்ளையார் கோவில் திருவிழா ஞாபகங்களை நினைத்து பேசிய பொழுதுதான் வாழ் நாளில் எப்படி எங்கள் சில நகைச்சுவை அனுபவங்களை மறக்க முடியாதோ அது போலவே எங்களால் ஏதோ ஒரு சில காரணங்களிற்காக சில நகைச்சுவையான அல்லது வேடிக்கையான மனிதர்களையும் வாழ் நாளில் மறக்க முடியாது. அப்படியான ஒரு உறுவுக்காரர் எங்கள் ஊரில் இருந்தார்.கதைக்காக அவரிற்கு ராசா பெயர் வைக்கிறேன். ராசா நன்றாக படித்து புகையிரத ஓட்டுனராக வேலையும் செய்தார்.

It is unfortunate that most foreign writers and journalists tend to describe the Tamil freedom fighters of Eelam as ‘terrorists’. The west has, particularly after the 7/11 incident in New York, USA, tended to describe any individual or organisation not with the establishment, as a terrorist or a terrorist organisation.  Journalists and newspapers are happier with labelling individuals or organisations. If a label is not available, they are always ready to create a catchy label. As an example, till recently, Ken Livingstone the Mayor of London was described by the British media as ‘Red’ Ken though he was never a communists, that did not matter to the media since the label was catchy and looked sensational in print. In Sri Lanka today, most Sinhala politicians and military spokespersons as a rule, always describe the LTTE as ‘terrorists’. Sadly in their case, it is because their vocabulary is sorely limited even in their mother tongue, as one would have noted on the rare occasions when an individual or a military spokesperson was interviewed by the newspapers or on television.

This brings me to a recent article by Karen Parker, the American Human Rights lawyer that I read recently. Karen Parker holds that if one was to use the same yardstick with which Americans describe the Tamil freedom fighters as terrorists, George Washington, the first American President, could be termed a terrorist. Most students of American history are aware of what is described as the ‘Boston Tea Party’, when a group of American rebels, dressed as Native Americans, boarded a tea clipper in the Boston harbour and dumped the crates containing processed tea leaves into the water.  This incident is what was said to have started the American freedom movement that was soon to develop into a war of independence. Today, journalists  would have referred to them as ‘terrorists’.

Hello all, Thanks again for taking time to read this section of the paper. I have just realised that I have been writing for our paper for a year and a half. For those loyal readers who have read more or less most of these know that I have covered Tamil history, day to day problems, social problems and have cavorted with controversial issues (who can forget the debate about virginity that ensued!). I have even had the pleasure of people writing whole articles agreeing with what I have written about and sharing their personal experiences. More recently, I have been approached by email and social networking sites by various people from Austria to Australia and from Italy to India. It is always a pleasure to receive compliments and encouragement from people who enjoy what I write. I am also quietly overjoyed that so many people read what I write (not blowing my own trumpet…as maybe they have no choice other than to read it!).

Last week the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) decided to ‘liberate’ some more Tamils through yet another ‘humanitarian mission’ using bombs and shells. This time this privilege was given to the Tamils living in the Musali region of Mannar.

This costal region, consisting of twenty or so small fishing hamlets, is a war destroyed community trying to stay afloat, by shallow water fishing off their coastal areas. During the last two years they have been economically deprived by fishing restrictions, but were left alone without the Sri Lankan Army (SLA) camps and check points.  

The GOSL systematically destroyed these people in the eighties and nineties like it did all over the Tamil Northeast. SLA camps and check points dotted this region too. They strangled the people in every possible way. By doing so the GOSL tried its best to pacify them, but failed miserably.

After the Ceasefire Agreement of 2001 the people of this region, both Tamils and Moslems, were trying their best to make a peaceful existence without harming anyone.

Most of the international aid workers know these people well, as they have worked with them since the Ceasefire.

This is the community GOSL ‘liberated’ last week. As usual, they were bombarded and shot at during this ‘liberation’. When people tried to run away to sanctuaries such as churches they were ambushed by SLA’s Deep Penetration Unit (DPU). After one of these ambushes, the highly decomposed bodies of two children were identified by the local people. These two children were among the twelve civilian victims killed in one DPU attack. They were a four year old girl Puvisuvetha and a four year old boy Rehushan Selvakumar.
