கோடைவெட்பம், கடற்கரைகள், ப10ங்காக்களை நாடும் மனம்;. குடிபானங்களைக் குளிராக்கி குடித்தாலும் ஆறாத தாகம். எங்கள் ஊரில் கோடை என்றால் இப்படியா? என்ற ஒப்புநோக்கில் நெஞ்சம் ஊங்சலாடுகின்றது. இத்தகைய வெப்பம் ஊரில் நாம் உணராத ஒன்றுதானே! ஏன் இப்படி? ஆமாம் அடுக்கான மாடிவீடுகள், ஒட்டி ஒட்டி தொடராக அமைந்த மனைகள். கள்ளருக்கு பயந்தும், வீதிச்சத்தத்தை கட்டுப் படுத்தவும் அடைக்கப்படும் யன்னல்கள், காற்றோட்டத்தையும் மீறிய சூட்டு சுற்றோட்டத்தை வீட்டுக்குள் தருகின்றது.

Since the article came out in the last issue I have had many concerned parents who have phoned me and asked who it was. They did not believe me when I stated that it was actually a girl from work and so they believe it might just be their daughters and not to mention my Tamil friends and colleagues. Then and there I fully realised how many people actually read ORU PAPER and most of all, they read the ‘TEENS PAPER’. It just comes to show that many parents and youngsters are still interested and keep reading. Many of the parents phoned in with panic but I assured them that it was not their girl. And after a while I started to regret even writing the article in the first place.

But then again, I have only written about what I have seen and thought about. It’s not just a subject that should be forgotten about. It’s something that many Tamils should come to terms with, as this kind of relationships are becoming very common as time goes by. We are no longer in the ice age or the mid ages. This is the innovatory age, when race and colour does nothing to a relationship. And when youngsters become more and more revolutionised in the western world we tend to think, act and behave just like a foreigner. And so for many Tamil girls and boys they see a black or white person just as equal as an Asian.

நான்கு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒருமுறை உதைபந்தாட்டத்தின் உலகக்கிண்ணத்திற்கான போட்டி எந்த நாட்டில் நடந்தாலும் பிரித்தானிய அரசாங்கம் வயிற்றில் நெருப்பைக்கட்டிக் கொண்டு இருக்குமளவிற்கு அந்த நாட்டின் உதைபந்தாட்ட ரசிகர்கள் நடந்து கொள்வார்கள். போட்டி நடக்கும் நாட்டிற்கு ஆயிரக்கணக்கில் போய் இறங்கி, தங்கள் அணியைத்தவிர வேறு எந்த அணி வென்றாலும் கலாட்டாதான். வேறு ஒரு நாட்டிற்குப்போய் அந்த நாட்டு ரசிகர்களிடம் கலாட்டா பண்ணுவதற்கும் ஒரு “தில்” இருக்கவேண்டும்.

இப்படியான “தில்” இருப்பதாக நினைத்துக்கொண்டுதான் ஒருமுறை எங்கள் பள்ளிக்கூட அணிக்கு ஆதரவாக நாங்கள் கொஞ்சப்பேர் வெளியூர் ஒன்றுக்குப் போனோம்.

யூலை 29 ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை பிறென்ற் நகரமண்டபத்தில் நடைபெற்றது. நாடக ஆசான் திரு ஏ சீ தாசீசியஸ் அவர்களின் தலைமையில் நடைபெற்ற இவ் விழா திருமதி அன்னா ஜோசேப், திருமதி மதி பாலச்சந்திரன் ஆகியோர் மங்கல விளக்கேற்ற அக வணக்கத்துடன் ஆரம்பமாகியது

Sixty years ago, India and Pakistan attained their independence. The departing British broke up ‘British India’ into two segments, India and Pakistan. In breaking up British India, the British showed the same disregard for national identity as they were to show in Sri Lanka shortly after.

The British, having decided to carve out two countries out of their Indian Empire, ‘imported’ a British judge Cyril Radcliffe to determine the boundaries of each of these two countries. This man Radcliffe had never been to British India before its partition and never visited India or Pakistan after. He was neither a historian nor even a geographer and was probably appointed by the British government because he had been a judge and maybe, had a ‘sound’ upper middleclass background. On arriving in India, he perhaps sat at one of the ornate tables in one of the many opulent offices of the British Raj, with a map of British India before him and determined the fate of millions of persons by drawing an  arbitrary line on the map, to determine which parts should go to India and which to Pakistan. It is clear that the British government of the time had little understanding of the enormity of human suffering he was to create. He even dreamed up, an ‘East Pakistan’ that had no geographical link with the rest of Pakistan, being separated by the vast land mass of India from main Pakistan. Needless to say, this East Pakistan decided in time, that it would be independent of main Pakistan and, broke free, with the help of India under Indra Gandhi, and set up Bangaladesh.

வள்ளிபுனத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள செஞ்சோலை வளாகத்தின் மீது சிறிலங்காப் படையினர் விமானத்தாக்குதல்களை நடாத்தி ஐம்பத்துமூன்று தமிழ் மாணவிகளை படுகொலை செய்த சம்பவம் நடைபெற்று ஒராண்டு ஆகிறது. இந்த ஒருவருட காலத்தில் இரண்டாயிரத்துக்கு அதிகமான தமிழ் மக்கள் கொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். இன்றும் நாள்தவறாது இந்த மனித அவலம் தொடர்ந்த வண்ணமிருக்கின்றது. சிறிலங்காவின் சட்டதிட்டங்களுக்கு புறம்பாக நடைபெறும் கொலைகள், ஆட்கடத்தல்கள், பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுவர்கள் மீதான வன்முறைகளின் பாத்திரவாளிகளாக சிறிலங்கா படைகளும் அவை சார்ந்த ஒட்டுக்குழுக்களும் இருக்கின்றன.

Almost two years after His Highness M.Rajapakse – President of the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL), Czar of Vakarai, Emperor of Thoppigala, democratiser of the Tamils, etc., etc. – launched his "War for Peace".  The International Community (IC) has a new pastime. A ’positive and frank’ discussion with the GOSL they say. And this discussion is all about ‘access to humanitarian work’.

In the mean time the GOSL is carrying on with its murderous war augmented by policies of divide and rule. It has been using international aid money to train and arm its murderous armed forces, the Sri Lankan Monitoring Mission blamed for the murders of aid workers. While the opposition parties in Colombo claim that the war has not been executed at full throttle, they could engineer Tamil divisions much better than the GOSL etc.

Unbelievable you may say.

Tamils have been informing the IC about their demand for equal rights and the violent replies they have been getting from the GOSL ever since. After all these efforts, in 2007, their right to self determination has been reduced to their right to aid and charity by the IC.

What is appalling about these ‘positive and frank’ discussions is that just as the Tamils are as far as ever from having a peaceful resolution to their demand of self determination the IC and the GOSL are indulging in a fantasy. In this necrophilic fantasy, Tamils have a safe and secure peace and the next step is the development of their economic and civic well being by giving them aid.

Is the IC totally blind you may ask.

Indeed, when the GOSL wants to destroy the Tamil nation, it tries its best to make the IC blind first.

Obviously, there is no peace in Tamil Northeast, and there may never be one within the next few years.

கிழக்கில் விரைவில் உள்ளுராட்சி சபைத் தேர்தலையும் மகாண சபைத் தேர்தலையும் நடத்தவதற்கு சிறிலங்கா அரசு அனைத்து ஏற்பாடுகளையும் செய்து வருகிறது. மகாண சபை தேர்தல் நடைபெறுவது சந்தேகம் என்றாலும் உள்ளுராட்சிச் சபைத் தேர்தல் விரைவில் நடைபெறும் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

  அவ்வாறான ஒரு தேர்தலில் விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் ஆதரவைப் பெற்ற தமிழ் தேசியக் கூட்டமைப்பு போட்டியட முடியாதை நிலை நிலவுகிறது. அதனால் கருணா குழுவே அதிக இடங்களை கைப்பற்றக் கூடிய நிலைமை அங்கு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது. தமிழினத்திற்கு துரோகம் இழைக்கின்ற கருணா குழுவிற்கு கிழக்கு மக்கள் வாக்களிப்பார்களா என்ற ஆச்சரியாமான கேள்வி எழலாம். வாக்களிப்பதற்கு சந்தர்ப்பங்கள் உண்டு என்பதுதான் அதற்கு பதில்.
