ஊர் சென்றதில் உலகை வென்ற மிதப்பு. மனசு மேகத்தில் கால் வைத்து பூமிக்கு இறங்குகிறது. அந்தநாளைய எங்கள் ஊர் தன் அடையாளம் கரைத்து ஏதோ இருக்கிறேன் என்றது. என் பால்ய தோழியின் பெயர் சொல்லிய போது அவள் தனது ஊரிலேயே இருக்கிறாள் என அத்தை சொன்னா. 12வருடங்களின் பின் அவள் இப்போது எப்படி இருப்பாள் என்பதை உள் மனசு சித்திரமாய் தீட்டியது. அவளும் நானும் டபிள் போன சைக்கிளின் சத்தமும் சிரிப்பும் இன்று போல் காதுக்குள் புது ராகமிசைக்கிறது.

இலங்கைத்தீவின் இனப்பிரச்சனைக்கு  இராணுவத்தீர்வு சாத்தியமில்லை என்பது மேற்கு நாடுகளின் வெளிப்படையான கருத்தாக இருந்து வருகிறது. இருப்பினும் சிறிலங்கா அரசு இராணுவத்தீர்வை நோக்கிச் செல்கின்றபோது அதற்கு இராணுவ, பொருளாதார உதவிகளை இந்நாடுகள் தொடர்ந்து வழங்கி வருகின்றன.

Much to the astonishment of Tamils all over the world, the April 29 IANS (Indo-Asian News Service) of Delhi came out with the news that, “Sri Lanka's peace process has been spiked for now, India wants to help civilians hit by the escalating conflict. India's thinking is expected to take concrete shape soon as New Delhi takes a fresh look at the various cards it can play in a seemingly bleak situation where both protagonists seem determined to fight it out”
With the Norwegian-brokered February 2002 ceasefire agreement (CFA) between Colombo and the LTTE barely breathing, the one question that nags Indian policy planners is: what next?
Behind-the-scene Role
Now it has come to light that New Delhi did play a key but behind-the-scene role in the framing of CFA five years ago when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled India. Further, India also contributed to the setting up of the Nordic Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), whose members were to oversee truce violations. Along with CFA, the SLMM too is in shambles now.
“While New Delhi remains committed to Sri Lanka's territorial unity, it is equally firm that only a political solution acceptable to broad sections among the Tamils can bring about an ultimate negotiated settlement”, say the Indian strategic planners They remain convinced that there can be no military solution to the Sri Lankan conflagration, which has taken a menacing shape since late 2005 leaving thousands dead and many thousands homeless
As for Norway, it is staying put as peace broker despite a snub from Colombo. And so India remains supportive of the role Norway has played, knowing well that the situation has reached a point where the international actors have ceased to play a determining role in Sri Lanka's limping peace process.
 Civilians' Suffering

Life in Tamil Northeast has become unbearable for most of its inhabitants. Daily bombings, killings, arbitrary arrests and disappearances carry on as they have been since Mr Rajapakse and his brothers took over power in Colombo.

Night time strafing, shelling and bombing are nothing new for the Tamils of Northeast. The majority of them do not have the luxury of electricity and running water etc which most southern Sri Lankans take for granted. Thus all night uninterrupted cricket watching on big screens in stereo sound, in your nearest refugee camp in order to cheer cricket teams is an absurd claim.

Electricity getting cut off in the middle of the night is an unpleasant experience for most of us. Having to wake up from your well earned sleep in the middle of the night to the sound of gun fire must be terrifying. Watching young soldier boys firing wildly  is a scary sight. Unable to answer your tearful children’s anxious questions thus unable to reassure them, in your own home, is something most of us would never like to experience. Hiding under furniture while your life is in mortal danger from aerial bombardment must be petrifying. Thus for the cosmopolitan and affluent Colomboites last Saturday night must have been a nasty and unfortunate one, one has to agree.

It seems that Mr Rajapakse is so generous, he is so egalitarian, that he is making even his beloved Colomboites experience what ever he has asked the hapless Tamils of Northeast to experience day in day out.

As all these are happening in the name of freedom, democracy, good governance etc one has to be sure about the agreement of the international community with Mr Rajapakse’s regime.

பிரித்தானிய நாடாளுமன்றில் நடைபெற்ற சிறிலங்கா தொடர்பான விவாதம்

இலங்கைத்தீவில் தொடரும் வன்முறைகள் தொடர்பாக பிரித்தானிய நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் முதல் தடவையாக கடந்த புதனன்று (மே 2) ஒரு விவாதம் நடைபெற்றது.

முக்கியமான விவாதங்கள்போலன்றி மிகக்குறைவான உறுப்பினர்களே இவ் விவாதத்தில் கலந்து கொண்டபோதும் தமிழ்மக்கள் வாழும் பகுதிகளை பிரதிநிதிப் படுத்தும் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப் பினர்களில் பெரும்பாலானோர் பங்கேற்று தமது கருத்துக்களைத் தெரிவித்தனர்.

ஏறத்தாள 4 மணி நேரம் நடைபெற்ற இவ்விவாதத்தில் பங்கேற்றவர்கள் வழங்கிய  பல்வேறுபட்ட கருத்துக்களின் சுருக்கத்தை இங்கு தருகிறோம்.

போதுமான பணம் இல்லை, மாமியார் கொடுமை, கல்யாணம் ஆகவில்லை, வேலை பிடிக்கவில்லை, என்னை யாருக்கும் பிடிக்கவில்லை,  இப்படி நமக்கு அப்பாற்பட்ட ஏதாவதொரு காரணம் எங்களுடைய மகிழ்ச்சியைத் தடுத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும். அதேபோல நமக்கு வெளியிலுள்ள ஏதேனும் ஒன்றில்தான் நமது மகிழ்ச்சி இருப்பதாக நினைப்போம்.

`மகிழ்ச்சி மனதில்தான் இருக்கிறது' என்று எத்தனையோ மகான்கள் எவ்வளவோ விதங்களில் சொன்னாலும் அவையெல்லாம் வெறும் தத்துவக் குப்பைகளாகவே நமக்குப்படுகின்றன. இந்த சிறிய பயிற்சியை செய்து பாருங்கள்:

முதலில் தற்போதைய மனநிலையில் உங்களுடைய மகிழ்ச்சியின் அளவீடு என்ன என்பதைக் குறித்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள் (ஒன்றிலிருந்து பத்துக்குள்). இப்போது கண்களை மூடி உங்கள் வாழ்க்கையின் மகிழ்ச்சியான தருணத்தை நினைவு கூறுங்கள்.

மட்டக்களப்பு வாவியின் மேலோடி நிற்கும் புளியந்தீவுப் பாலத்தில் உறைந்தவாறு கிழக்கின் தென்றலை சுகித்து சுவாசித்த, இன்பவசப்பட்ட அந்த மண்ணின் மைந்தன் அந்த மண்ணின் வளத்துக்காகவே புதைக்கப் பட்டான் போலும். உலகத்தின் திக்குகள் எல்லாம் அவன் பாதங்கள் பதிந்திருந்தாலும் அவன் தன் ஆழ்மனதின் அமைதி தேடி அந்த மட்டக்களப்பு மண்ணுக்கே ஓடிவந்து கொண்டிருந்தான். அந்த மண்ணிலே தமிழ் மக்களைத், தமிழ் மக்களே காயப்படுத்தும் வகையிலான நிகழ்வுகள் இரு வருடங்களுக்கு முன் ஆரம்பித்த கணங்களில் செங்குருதி சிந்தாத ஒருமைப்பாடு காண விரைவுகொண்டு விழைந்தவன் அவன். அவன்தான் தராக்கி என்று எம்மால் அழைக்கப்பட்ட தர்மரட்னம் சிவராம்.
