Welcome to all of you teenagers who are reading my article this issue and even those few adults who are just eager to know what I am writing about this issue. As many of you know, there has not been a Teen section in Oru Paper for the past two issues as not a lot of you have considered to write for the paper. This time I have taken the time to write a few lines to get my views across to a wider audience. As many of you may know I have the tendency to write exactly as I may believe so if any of my writing offends you as readers I apologise for it in advance.
This issue I have decided to talk about MR.BARAK OBAMA. I remember the night of the election. My dad wanted find the election result he we up as early as 5:30am to find out the result of the election but when I asked him why he was so eager to find out the election result of a different country’s result he stated “if Obama wins that means we are one step closer to getting our part of our Eelam and getting a peaceful and rightful life”. And until this day I do not fully understand how that is possible. Yes we have got our first black president of America and a great man he is but I am simply failing to see the connection. Once upon a time Black people were put down by the white people and treated unfairly just as my people(tamils) in Sri Lanka are being treated now but if the black people get their freedom don’t you think it’s time my people also get their freedom.
As a young student living in a foreign country and looking down at the people who are living in my home land I cry with fear of lives being lost unfairly and in mass amounts. I fear that in a few years time there will not be a single Tamil alive in Sri Lanka after the Governments regime.
Coming back to MR.BARAK OBAMA and why Tamils are happy of his victory; I can understand one point. If the America can go to IRAQ and help the people of Iraq from the evil leadership of Saddam Hussein then should I believe that America will do the same for my people? Should I sit here and dream that they would see the full truth of what is really going on in Sri-Lanka and how the government being totally opposite of what a government should be. A fully fair government should care about the people of all types who live under its rule and should bring what it can in its power to keep the people of its nation happy and peacefully. I have not heard of anything even near enough to that in so many years I lived in Sri-Lanka under the Singhalese Rule.
Some of you who read my article may think that I am being one sided and not give the Singhalese a second chance. I have given them not one, not two but many. I agree that there are many Singhalese people out there in this world who are very fair, nice and who are not racists and those who are; I appreciate them but those many who are racists and those who take Tamils to be nothing more than rubbish, sorry to say this but they are nothing more either. Readers should not get the wrong idea, but from a young girl who sees her people being killed and bombed for just the reason that they are Tamil it is frustrating. I see on the news that the Singhalese army has been killed in cluster amounts and for many reasons I feel just as sad as I would for my people as for their and one of the reasons being ‘ they are humans after all’ but then my mind asks but do they think and act as fairly as you do? And I fail to answer that question as I do not know. Why such unfairness in this world, why such worthless and meaningless fights that cost many young ones lives that are worth more? I can only ask my fellow readers as I do not know the answers to those questions.
In countries like mine, there are many lives being lost and many live’s which are on the verge of distinction and what we as youngsters do in these countries? Many of us just hear the news from parents and stop there. The rest go just a bit further and do voluntary work in belief that even we can help the ones back home and the rest I don’t know what they do. I say all this for a reason and you would know as you read on. But for those lives which have been lost I do pray for peace.
With Tamil Hero’s Day vastly approaching; I am eager to hear what my leader is about to say and let’s hope that peace for my people come fast. And for those of you who believe that MR.BARAK OBAMA is your way forward getting Eelam you have one more thing coming. Winning is not everything is it. Like I told my dad I tell you all, I will not believe anyone until I see the result in the end. LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) have been considered as Terrorist in many countries including America. When that name has been taken away then I will believe in ‘CHANGE’. When America interferes with the Sri-Lankan Governments rule then I will believe in ‘HOPE’. When in the end we get a government which treats all humans’ weather they are Tamil, Singhalese or Muslim the same then I will believe in ‘EQUALITY’. And when my people can travel from origin to origin without the fear of death and being taken into police custody for being a Tamil them I will believe in ‘PEACE’.
