THE ART OF THINKING ____ By BK JAYANTI
Here I refer the first few pages from the easy reading book "The art of thinking " :
The basis for the art of thinking is the art of living and the basis for the art of living is the art of thinking.
Whatever my thoughts, that is what I become.
We achieve our dreams and aspirations on the basis of our own thinking.
If I want to make may life full of truth and beauty, then let my thoughts be full of truth and beauty.
This sounds very simple but our thoughts are rather like a ball of mercury, difficult to capture.
The mind moves in a thousand different directions and at great speed.Sometimes we don’t know where it is going or why, and only after the experience do we begin to see what has happened. Then we say, “Why did that happen?” We don’t realise that it is I myself who allowed it to happen.
If something happens which we don’t like, very often the human tendency is to point "out there”.
Gandhi made the famous observation that IF YOU POINT ONE FINGER OUTWARDS,
YOU ARE ACTUALLY POINTING THREE FINGERS TOWARDS YOURSELF ! Try it ! This little gesture is an indicator that when I start thinking that what’s happening “out there” is responsible for my experience , I need to remind myself that I am the creator of my own thoughts and responses. I am responsible for my own state of peace, wellbeing, happiness and love. It is not somebody or something else that is responsible for any of these things.Realising my responsibility, I am challenged to make a decision whether to take on all that negativity or rather to respond creatively with positive thoughts and responses from my own inner world.
Where do I begin? I can begin with DETACHMENT (DETACHED OBSERVER)
This is a word that is very much mis-understood. Detachment doesn’t mean cutting off.
It doesn’t mean running away.
It means learning to separate two different things, the world outside and the world inside,
and being able to see these worlds separate.
Out side are my job, study finances, relationships, etc.
Inside are less easily measured, things that are non- physical - my emotions, conscience , consciousness and personality - all of which happen in my inner world, within my own spiritual identity.
These are the ingredients which I , the detached observer, can creatively experiment with in
the “ART " of THINKING and can use in the ART of LIVING .

If you want to take responsibility for your thoughts, then study and practise the art of thinking.
In this little book, Sister Jayanti explains how to separate our inner life from our outer life,
and how to train the mind to create and sustain positive thoughts. (Available @ http://www.bkpublications.com/productdetail.asp?prodid=2811)

Spirituality in Daily Life
Spirituality begins with understanding.
Spiritual understanding are:
1. the understanding of myself and how I view myself in relation to the world.
2. the understanding of the Source
3. understanding the law of cause and effect
Spirituality can never be disassociated from of life.Spirituality is that non-material energy which actually empowers and governs my life and my every action. If I think that I have to leave the world or go and sit on a mountain top or merely subscribe to a set of religious beliefs in order to "be spiritual" , then there is something missing within my understanding of what spirituality means.(referred from the book 'Spirituality in Daily Life' By BK JAYANTHI)
With the awareness of myself as a spiritual being, I can go deeper and deeper, through the level of conscious thought to the level of feelings, motives and conscience, With this awareness, I begin to create thoughts on that deeper level. As I observe the quality of my thinking and understand where is coming from, then I start to be selective. As a DETACHED OBSERVER, I choose which types of thoughts I would like to have. This practice of standing back and looking inside my mind is very powerful and fruitful exercise, but if I don't take the time and trouble to do this for myself, then what usually happens is that life just pushes me around.Standing back and observing what is happening in my mind enables me to choose my own destination.Naturally , I continue to give the right attention to the external situation, but ONLY when I see this separation can I really look at what is happening in my inner world. What emotions are arising ? Where do these emotions come from ? I begin to see that these are very much connected with my own pattern of thinking. __ BK Jayanti
