Living with the Tamil grapevine

Keen observers of Tamileelam struggle will promptly figure out the content of this blog, thanks to Google that I can confidently verify this fact.
I googled the phrase ‘Tamil grapevine’ and the results showed five out of ten results in the first page of Google results are from Tamil week and Transcurrents websites!!

So called ‘Sri Lanka analyst’ DBS Jeyaraj has been using this phrase very frequently in contemporary Tamil political reporting.

What is grapevine?
According to the Cambridge online dictionary, “To hear news from someone who heard the news from someone else”

Another online dictionary says grapevine telegraph. A person-to-person method of spreading rumours, gossip, information, etc., by informal or unofficial conversation, letter writing, or the like.

From wikipedia

“The term grapevine can be traced to Civil War days when vine like telegraph wires were strung from tree to tree across battlefields and used by Army Intelligence.[4] The messages that came over these lines were often so confusing or inaccurate that soon any rumour was said to come from the grapevine. Usually, grapevines flow around water coolers, down hallways, through lunch rooms, and wherever people get together in groups.[5] The lines of communication seem to be haphazard and easily disrupted as the telegraph wires were, however, they transmit information rapidly and in many cases faster and with a stronger impact than the formal system allows”

In conclusion grapevine means unsubstantiated claims and rumours.

DBS and Tamil grapevine

Mr Jeyaraj is belonged to the Jaffna Christian elite which thrive in the rich missionaries funded by the western world for last two centuries. Obviously their politics will be liberalism and academic activism. He grown up in Kurunagala outside Jaffna peninsula for most of his childhood and returned to Jaffna during his late teens. Since eruption of Tamileelam struggle, the dominance of English educated liberal intelligentsia of Jaffna Christians started to fade and at one point Valvettithurai based ‘illiterate’ youths had taken the centre stage of Tamils politico military struggle for the Tamil emancipation. Fundamentally this is the reason behind the Jaffna elite’s animosity towards the Liberation Tigers. They could not digest the truth that Mr Pirapaharan’s dominance in the Tamil politics for last three decades but no one will acknowledge this publicly because of the risk of being exposed of their true nature, old fashioned cast minded English educated elite wanted to dominate the Tamil public life.
From Neelan Thiruchelvam to Rajan Hoole every body wants to dismantle the Tamil nationalism ideology because it threatens their survival and dominance in the society. Thanks to Sinhala supremacist governments in Colombo the Tamil nationalism had completely occupied the Tamil public life and these elite Tamils had only two choices either with us or with them (Colombo governments) and they chose later.

This is a brief description why DBS is resorted in a treacherous path to destroy the Tamil nationalism movement. I must say that one more factor pushing him to write against the Liberation Tigers is “from India with love”. Even Indian cabinet does not have the access to the Indian external intelligence apparatus RAW’s spending detail so I don’t have any evidence to confirm that he is in the pay role of RAW.

DBS is the only journalist in the world to come out with breaking news, investigative reports on events happening in Tamileelam thousands of miles away from his residence in Canada. He is the only investigative journalist working without stepping out of his house. The latest story he broke was some thing extra ordinary that is “Prabakharan injured slightly in air force bombing”. He even out manoeuvred the infamous defence.lk and cohorts of anti Tamil propaganda mouth pieces. Apart from him and his trusted ‘Tamil grapevine’ no one was aware about this story! Even the dailymirror.lk missed this story usually they have the habit of ‘breaking’atleast the news of local snooker tournament!

The loss of ‘Taraki’ Sivaram is the single most irreplaceable loss during the post CFA phoney war and it is hurting our struggle dearly.
