continued from the previous issues [1] [2]
I would like to firstly inform all my readers that I do not write articles so that people can just follow me without thinking about it first. You may ask why I say this, I will explain further in the article. About this topic, I have got a lot of response from both the public and family and friends; some being in favour and let’s say some being not so in favour of me writing this article. Yet I still continue to write only to justify my point, after all it is my duty to explain my self and to reply back to those of you who have asked me many questions and even went a step further into telling me to “write to encourage our youngsters to use their potential in these areas and be revolutionised and innovative”.
To tell you all the truth I actually read through my previous articles on this subject many times just to see if I did write anything that was unnecessary or irrelevant or even something inappropriate but to tell you the truth; I really do not feel as if I have committed a huge crime in writing about this.
Here is one reply to my article “born Tamils live as it is and don’t cross, black boys looking for white girls because in Caribbean fair people are superior is the truth… … their style is very convenient to young people who do not want responsibility do you want the same life style, go ahead but don’t misguide the others, I am sorry for your ignorance”. When I read this I was shocked and did not know what else to say. I mean yes Tamils must keep their traditions and values and culture but why must we not fall in love with a guy/girl from a different race. This is not my question but many others. Just because I have written about it, you had the chance to think about it and voice your opinions. Don’t you believe that it’s time we make others realise that such issues like this exists and we must come to understand.
Yes, I did say in the last articles that “I know for sure that our lovely quite girl knows what she is doing and what really counts is that she has the right to decide for herself. Let them reach out, how long are we going to be keeping control of our race in one circle. If one falls in love then race, culture, beauty and colour are no boundary.” And I truly understand that some girls might have found these lines very persuasive from what I have heard. However I did not write this in any way to encourage more Tamil girls to do and find the next black guy. From this I tried to argue that we must have our freedom to choose and decide things without having boundaries such as race and status. Once upon a time Periyaar, Bharathy and even Ghandi fought to make all humans equal without class, status , and religious differences and now I am following their path in making the world a more peaceful place by not caring so much about racial differences. Then it was about class and status and now it’s about race.
To all those who are reading this article please take this point of view with an open mind. If we can revolutianise from wearing skirts and blouses to jeans and t-shirt then can we not accept such love affairs? However I would just like to say that I hope I have not offended anyone or forced anyone in any way via writing this article. I just felt that this was a subject that had to be discussed purely because I felt it was necessary. It does not mean I do not write to encourage youngsters to keep our traditions and customs but in a rapidly changing world, we must also talk about things that exist now, don’t u think so?
As Tamils we have gone from just hating the idea of love to actually letting out youngsters live with their lovers even before marriage ( you cannot deny this as I’ve seen it and heard it happening)… and I know that even though some tamils might think it’s a ridiculous idea now, they will not be in the near future. And in no way does this mean that I want a black boyfriend or to say that I want a carefree lifestyle as them because I love my culture, I love my customs and most of all I love the idea of one man for one women.
All this does not change my view that “If one falls in love then race, culture, beauty and colour are no boundary…and for as long as long as we live in this foreign countries let’s still carry on our good traditions and custom values but leave the bad thoughts and ego behind.” But id does not also change my views about my culture which is recognised for it’s goodness and purity.
