This was a very special day for me as I took part in this competition, along with my group ‘’Dance Lab’’. Our group name was chosen by my great dance teacher Mrs

Relationships

Greetings to all the Oru paper readers. In this life, there are many different types of relationships. The first ever relationship we have is with our mother. It is the first contact we all have. Everywhere, the first thing the doctors do is they place us in our mother’s hands. This bond that gets created between us and our mothers must never get destroyed throughout our life. This bond must be kept special and unbreakable by anyone. The second contact we get is our father’s bond. This is also, an important one for our success in life. Both our parents’ bonds are crucial for each and every one of us. In our life, if we fail to love our parents, and respect them too, we will definitely fail in everything we do. There’s no point to expect victory in things we do, but failure will keep on appearing. No matter what happens between us and our parents, we must never let go off them, and never expect them to bow their heads in front of us. Whether they are wrong or right, it doesn’t matter, they are older than us, and they have done everything for us since we are young. For example, I definitely need to praise all the mothers out there who took the pain of carrying us throughout till birth, without letting anything hurt us. We must appreciate the favours that our parents have done for us. Once again I repeat, it might be too late one day, if you don’t realise right now.
Then its sister and brother relationships that we get and these are very significant towards the foundation of the family. It is so essential that we all have strong relationships whether it’s our mother or sister. A family needs to stand together through good and bad. Then even though a storm hits you, your family will never fall apart.
A family got to be strong together, no matter what comes in the way, we must learn to forgive and forget. But if we keep things in mind, and try to take revenge, then certainly happiness will never be there in that family.

Father’s day

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there. I really think it’s nice to have special days for mother’s day and father’s day, it makes the day extra unique. However, every day is special and exceptional.
I really thank god for giving us the father we all have, as all our fathers are unique and the best father we could ever have, in their own different way.
Sometimes it is hard to notice, but just step back, and you will realise the amount of hard work our fathers do, to give us better lives. Nevertheless, Father’s day should not be the only day you shower love over your father, you should do it every day. Show your parents how much you love them now. Like I have mentioned before, their aim is us, just us. They don’t expect you to give them money, or things, all they ask for is your love, respect and care. That’s easy right, there’s no hard work involved or effort, and it’s something that’s suppose to come deep from our heart.
I know these are things we all know, but sometimes we need to be reminded again and again, trust me it’s worth it, when being reminded about certain things. We lead such happy, easy lives, as our parents look after us. But a time will come when we will have to look after our parents. To be honest, I don’t think there will be anything equal to what our parents have done to us, compared to what we’ll do for them. I really think that all the fathers out there are fabulous. It’s our duty to thank them, and to show our respect towards them. I would say in one way fathers struggle more than mothers, only in the aspect, where they work day and night for their family. On the other hand, mothers work hard too by managing, and leading the whole family.

Elders know much more than youngsters

The article titled ‘’Roots’’ has really inspired me to write to you all. It was a really meaningful article, which you should all read.
In today’s world, many youngsters turn around and tell their parents, and grandparents, this is not Sri Lanka, this is London.
I do agree this is London, however, we should not change the way we should be, and behave. We tend to miss the point, when our elders say don’t do that, or don’t go there. But there will be a time, when we get married, and have children, and when they turn into teenagers. At that time, we will be so worried about them, and do everything to protect them, and when they will in return tell us, this is not Sri Lanka, and this is London, that’s when we will learn our lessons. Nevertheless, when the time comes for us to understand our mistake, it will be too late, to ask forgiveness. Whatever, our elders say, will have a reason for it, there will be a meaning, but we must not question back, as they do everything they can for our happiness. You may feel agitated, but just think about it, think about, how would you want your children to be? Surely, no matter what our parents say will always be right, with a right purpose. They know much more than us, and have far more experiences than us. Therefore, it will always be wise, for us to seek advice from them.
I think, especially in this world right now, which is full of crime, as you all are aware of, advice from them should not be neglected at all.

Do not forget about Madeleine

Readers I do not know what you think about Madeleine’s disappearance right now. But I really hope and still pray that, she is somewhere out there. The public seems to have quietened down, as it’s nearly going to be one year she’s missing. However, the quietness is bad news, as we must keep on doing everything we can to find her. I know you are probably thinking ‘’what can we do?’’, well the answer is ‘’Pray’’. The fact that Madeleine was 3, when she was abducted, and that it’s nearly one year, really hurts me. It is unbelievable, that there are no traces, of where she could be.
About Madeleine: Madeleine was born on the 12th May 2003, and was a very happy, as well as a popular child. She’s a very active child, who’s always running around and at all times doing something. A noticeable identification feature, is her right eye where the pupil runs into the iris in the form of a black radial strip reaching from the pupil out to the edge of the white.
Madeleine’s parents McCann have spoken of their delight, and hope, as missing Shannon Matthews was found alive. They said it has given them faith in finding their daughter Madeleine, and that they will never give up, until Madeleine is found. Surely, she will be found soon, as hundreds of police are involved in her search, not forgetting all the advertising going on about Madeleine’s disappearance. Let’s all hope, and pray that she will be found as soon as possible. Imagining such situation in my life really scares me. I am even unable, to even think about such circumstance. Therefore, what her family is going through must be so terrible. Imagine, having lost your close one, for like nearly a year…unimaginable right…This issue is a great sadness, and mystery, which is ongoing. The public must not forget her, and posters, and everything relating to her search must not stop. Everyone should be aware, and keep being reminded of her.

Santosh Subramanium: An excellent movie

Starring: Jayam Ravi, Prakash Raj, Genelia, Kausalya, Geetha, Premji Gangai Amaran

This movie has a special blend of love, family emotions, and bonds. Santosh Subramanium is one of the movies, where Jeyam Ravi faces a choice between love and family. Who will compromise, or would there ever be a justified understanding, forms the rest of the story.
Jeyam Ravi in this movie has a perfect family, and such happiness. But still, within himself, he’s frustrated. He plays the role of an obedient child, but has a dream of marrying the girl he loves. Genelia plays the role of a bubbly, smiling girl, who has friends wherever she goes.
The director has well portrayed how a child should be. For example, by respecting their parents, and not talking back. How a child should behave, is clearly shown by Jeyam Ravi.
In life, many fathers do their best for their children, but it sometimes leads to misunderstanding. For instance, Prakash Raj over cares Jeyam Ravi, and decides every single thing from beginning to end in his life, which is not a problem, as he wants best for his son. However, he lacks understanding his son’s happiness, and he doesn’t give him a chance to speak. Another point is that he doesn’t ask him what he likes, what he does not, everything is chosen only by the father, and this is where he makes a huge mistake.
The key point of this movie is, understanding every member in a family, it’s such a vital point.
Therefore, the best way of coming to an understanding, is by talking to each other, and solving our issues. If we are affectionate towards someone we must be honest, and tell them exactly how we feel.
As well as, the way the father and son make up is such an emotional scene. This is how we should also be, when we realise our mistakes, we must make peace, and be happy again.
The way Jeyam Ravi persuades his whole family, and does things in the right order is wonderful. I’m glad that, he doesn’t run away from home.

Suffering children in Sri Lanka

It is so shocking to see many children suffering in Sri Lanka everyday. There’s just not a full stop to it, which brings such sadness into our lives. Children suffer to such big extent, that they are unable to eat, due to lack of money, and so starts to beg in railway stations. The situations are so worse in Sri Lanka, due to all the wars, which mean that practically no one has a peaceful life. The awful situations sometimes lead parents to abandon their children, as they can’t afford to look after them. In fact a high number of lives have been affected by Tsunami, but the number just cannot be justified. Lots of people have lost their loved ones, homes, jobs, and everything they owned. So when we compare our lives to them, you can see the massive difference. But we just don’t realise, and complain so much, and are never satisfied with the amount of things we have or even the big issue ‘’money’’. People, who have money, want more and more money, which I think is so common, but so wrong, and these type of people need to stop and think. To tell you the truth, if you are provided with or eat 3 meals everyday, then you’re considered as rich. Because those people don’t even get that, they starve for food, and just hope that they will be able to eat at least once a day.

Differences between friends and best friends

In life, a friend just says hi..hello..bye and walks away. But a best friend takes time, stops by your side, and asks how you are doing. This is because, the best friend cares and wants to make sure your fine.
A friend has never seen you cry, whereas a best friend would have its shoulders soggy from your tears. A best friend will never mind you crying out.
A friend thinks the friendship is over due to an argument. However, a best friend will still value your friendship after an argument. A best friend can only show their anger towards a person they really value in life.
A friend gets so annoyed, when you call late night. A best friend will ask why you took so long to call. A best friend will always pick up your call.
A friend acts like a guest while visiting. A best friend, opens your refrigerator, and helps himself. A best friend treats ur house, as his home.
A friend gets jealous of your love history. A best friend wonders about your love history.
A friend expects you to always be there for any help. A best friend is always there, whenever you need any help. A best friend will do anything to make you happy.
A friend doesn’t have time in his busy schedule, but a best friend always has time no matter how busy he is. A best friend will always listen to you, no matter how busy he is.
A friend only calls whenever there’s some work. A best friend calls you just to hear your voice. A best friend will call regularly, to check that you’re well.
A friend doesn’t have anything to talk to on the phone. A best friend can’t stop talking on the phone. A best friend talks about anything and everything.

Marriage

Marriage is the day where a woman and a man are united by their parents, meaning they are no longer two different individuals, but one.
There are two different types of marriages, one is proposed, and the other is love. Whether our marriages is proposed or love all depends on our parents, as well as us.
In those days, parents mostly proposed their daughters, but now sometimes girls are given a choice. I suppose it all depends if we fall in love with the right person or not. But most of us youngsters know that there is no place for the word ‘LOVE’ in our families, but it is all for our own good.
Looking around, it is very clear that the most successful marriages are the ones performed with parent’s blessings. Those who marry without parent’s acceptance are never satisfied enough in life, they search for many other unnecessary things. However, I’m not saying that marriage life would be perfect if done with parent’s blessings. There will be problems, but that’s all in our hands to sort them out. To fall in love can sometimes be very dangerous, especially if we are adamant to marry that person we think is the best for us. We will make a mistake, which we will never be able to change.
A marriage only happens once in life, so it will be more advisable to do it with parent’s acceptance, and so this marriage will be a happy unforgettable memory.

Friends

We all have friends, and it is essential to keep them for ever. Sometimes,we take our friends for granted, and we don't realise the love, care and concern they have for us. We all are unique, and so have different ways of expressing our feelings. Some are shy, and so speak through their eyes. While others are confident, and say things directly. We should accept the way people are, even if they don't in return. Because ego is unnecessary between friends. Sometimes friendships are difficult to handle, which leads to misunderstandings. The solution is to take things slowly, and clear things right away. This way everything will become easier, and your friendship with that person will grow more.

What's the meaning of life......

Here's a question for all the readers ''What's the meaning of life?''. Here's what i think....living the best life is to be honest, loyal, trusthworthy, kind, loving, caring, patient, good, helpful, understanding, hard working etc.
We should all work hard in our lives and aim high, as well as enjoy. We should all have fun in our lives, but up to a certain extent. We should never cross the limits, and be wise in all the decisions we make. As you all know, for us it is so easy to fall into traps easily. There's many temptations and desires for us young people, and if we fall into them, it will take quite some time to regain our balance.
The essential thing to do is that if we know things are going in the wrong direction, then we should immediately put a full stop. You might think it's only once, but you will regret it all your life and think why you did it in the first place.
Life is living right, and gaining a good name, and being a person that no one will ever forget. It's all about being happy and smiling every second. If you smile at someone, then the whole day they will remember your smile.
Be kind to one another, and even though problems come your way, you will be able to deal with them. Key point: There is no life without problems, and we just have to keep fighting hard.

Dreaming

A dream is an experience of envisioned images, sounds, and other sensations during sleep. The events of dreams are often impossible or unlikely to occur in physical reality. Everyone has about 5 dreams a night, but don't always remember them.
Dreams are unique, no one else can have your emotions, or your experiences. Every dream is connected with your own ''reality''. Why do we have dreams? This is still an unresolved issue. But as far as humans we hold back our feelings thoughout the day, and release our feelings during the night through our dreams.
Howvever, dreams have a significance, our dreams always contain hidden meanings. Its significance is personal and dependent on our personal experiences. Some of us have repeating dreams which indicates that some issue has yet not been resolved. Daydream is regarded as wandering thoughts, and occur when you are semi awake.
They are often viewed as light hearted in nature and are no more than wishful thinking and silly fantasies. We all have dreams, good and bad. Dreaming can also be a sort of relaxation, when we close our eyes, and want to think about something else, other than the outside world. Everybody dreams, simply everyone.

We have all got the best mum (amma) in the world

We have all got the best mum (amma) in the world

By Flora Stanislaus

Hey guys!I hope you liked my previous article. Well, here's another one for you. I would like to really point out that we are all lucky to have such beautiful, caring, loving and intelligent mothers.
I mean if you realy look closely into your relationship with your mum, you will realise several things. For example, that you think alike, talk alike, and even act alike. As well as, you might think of something in your heart, and your mum will say out the exact thing you were thinking about. (Yes it's true).
There might be a moment in your life where you will need a shoulder to cry on, but your friends will all be busy. But there will always be someone who loves you more than anyone, who will be available 24/7, which is your mum.
Any advices she gives will always be for the best, and anything she says will always happen. I asked my friend once who her best friend was, and her answer was ''My amma'', which i think is wonderful.
My honest opinion is that i think all mums are lovely in their own ways.
